Marbella lifestyle — what living here actually looks like.

Marbella averages 320 sunny days per year, holds three Michelin-starred restaurants, and has the highest density of five-star hotels of any coastal municipality in continental Spain. This guide covers what the lifestyle actually delivers across climate, dining, sport, and family infrastructure.

Climate and the extended season

July and August bring 28–35°C with low humidity. The real differentiator is the extended shoulder: April through June and September through November are consistently sunny (22–26°C) and uncrowded. December through March is mild (12–18°C, occasional rain) with all infrastructure operating year-round.

Unlike Ibiza or Cannes, Marbella does not contract after October. Restaurants, golf courses, international schools, and private clubs operate twelve months. This is why the residential market skews towards primary and second residences rather than purely seasonal use.

Dining and hospitality infrastructure

Three Michelin-starred restaurants: Skina (2 stars, old town), Messina (1 star, Golden Mile corridor), El Lago at La Zagaleta (1 star, private estate). Broader dining landscape: Nobu, Zela, La Sala, and approximately 40 restaurants at the level where a serious meal is a two-hour event.

Hotel anchors: Marbella Club (5 stars, 1954), Puente Romano (5 stars, beach club), Villa Padierna (5 stars, Benahavís), Finca Cortesín (5 stars, 40 minutes west). Main beach clubs — Ocean Club, Nikki Beach, Pangea — run May through October.

Sport infrastructure

Golf: approximately 70 courses within 60 km of Marbella, six within 15 km (La Quinta, Los Flamingos, Las Brisas, Los Naranjos, Aloha, Marbella Club Golf). Valderrama (Ryder Cup host) is 45 minutes west in Sotogrande. Padel: the primary social sport for residents under 50; most post-2018 luxury developments include a court. Tennis: Puente Romano Tennis Centre, Real Club de la Duquesa.

Polo: Santa María Polo Club in Sotogrande (April–October, 90 km). Puerto Banús marina: 915 berths up to 60 metres, charter market active year-round.

International schools near Marbella

Within 25 minutes of central Marbella: Aloha College (IB, British curriculum, founded 1982); Colegio Internacional de Marbella (British); Swans International School (British, 3–18 years); Laude San Pedro (British, San Pedro de Alcántara, 15 minutes). Sotogrande International School (IB, boarding, 90 minutes) for boarding-tolerant families.

School choice often drives zone selection: Aloha College buyers concentrate in Nueva Andalucía; CIM buyers spread across central Marbella and Benahavís. Zone distances to the preferred school should be verified before purchase.
